December 16th---Morris R. Segall made a presentation on unemployment trends and issues to the Unemployment Insurance Oversight Committee of the Maryland General Assembly. His presentation dealt with the current economic recession and its current and prospective impact on unemployment insurance payments both near and longer term.
December 11, 2008---Anirban Basu made an economic presentation to the New Hampshire chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors Association in Manchester, New Hampshire. His presentation is available upon request.
December 4th ---Morris R. Segall along with other economists and industry experts participated in a live panel webcast to members of the Construction Financial Management Association in Washington, DC. The panel discussed various aspects of the current non-residential construction cycle and the outlook for this sector over the next year and longer term.
November 20th---Morris R. Segall, President of SPG Trend Advisors, addressed another group of business leaders and owners in the continuing Executive Dialogue Series sponsored by the law firm of Offit-Kurman. This address was in Towson, Maryland. He updated the executives on the national and local economic conditions with an emphasis on the impact on the Maryland economy. He further stressed the steps we recommend in surviving and even expanding in the current recession and pointed out the economic areas we believe present longer term business growth opportunities. November 19th---Morris R. Segall, President of SPG Trend Advisors, addressed a Vistage International Executive group in Memphis, Tennessee. His presentation included an update on the current economic conditions in the economy and our firm’s economic forecast for the next two years. Importantly, he also counseled the CEO’s and COO’s attending the meeting on steps they could and should undertake to survive and even succeed in the current recessionary environment. He also pointed out areas of longer term economic opportunities for growth and gave our longer term economic outlook post the current recessionary cycle. November 3, 2008--- Anirban Basu moderated and made a presentation to the Greater Baltimore Committee’s major fall symposium in Baltimore, Maryland, focusing on the Presidential election and its impact on taxes and business. His presentation is available upon request.
October 27---Morris R. Segall, President of SPG Trend Advisors, addressed the Partners retreat of Beard Miller Co. in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. His presentation included an update on the current economic recession and our firm’s outlook and forecast for the next two years and longer term. October 15th and 16th---On two successive days, Morris Segall, President of SPG Trend Advisors, addressed two separate Vistage International Executive groups in Washington, DC. Mr. Segall made economic presentations updating key executives on the current economic conditions, advising them on coping with the current recession and outlining opportunities to benefit their businesses longer term. September 9, 2008---Morris R. Segall, President of SPG Trend Advisors, addressed the Annual Leaders Conference of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling held in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Segall spoke on the current national and international economic conditions and their outlooks over the next two years and longer term. He also had recommendations for the counseling group on helping their clients successfully get through the current consumer financial dilemma. September 6, 2008---We have published an article on the Federal government takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government sponsored mortgage entities. We comment and analyze the government’s actions and their implications for the current credit crisis. We also comment on the current state of the economy and the worsening trends we see below the headlines. We also update our outlooks for the economy and the implications on the capital markets near and longer term. Lastly and very importantly we outline our concerns about the cost of the Federal government’s forced rescue of the mortgage and banking industries and its impact on the long term perception of the U.S. as an attractive credit risk.
